Thomas Isaac Alleges AI Use in UDF White Paper Leaked Confidential Govt Data

Former Kerala Finance Minister and CPI(M) central committee member Thomas Isaac has alleged that the United Democratic Front (UDF) used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to analyze confidential finance department documents for its 195-page white paper, thereby exposing sensitive government data to the public domain. Speaking at a press conference, Isaac claimed that uploading secret state documents to public AI platforms violates digital data protection laws as well as strict guidelines established by the Supreme Court, High Court, and central and state finance departments.

According to Isaac, the reliance on AI tools led to significant factual errors in the white paper, such as falsely presenting Kerala’s development expenditure as less than half of other states. He explained that the AI platform utilized Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data which excludes financial allocations made to local self-government institutions, thereby skewing the final calculations. The controversy has once again highlighted the ongoing challenges of information security within the Secretariat, where leaks of official documents have historically remained a persistent issue despite strict government regulations.
